Task: To create a 10 second video inspired by an auteur, filmmaker or film movement.
Alfred Hitchcock’s psycho last scene when Norman Bates is arrested and is sat on a chair but he’s not Norman, in his mind his version of his mother, Norma is “taking over”. The Ring’s infamous “tape”. And Darren Aronofsky and how he likes to focus his films on eyes and to see the character’s emotions through the eyes.
The first scene in the video will be inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho’s last scene and then it closes in on the eyes and then random scenes flash by. The idea behind it its to inn a way representing the inside of the mind, in the style of the ring.
“When Darren Aronofsky focuses on a character’s eyes. Aronofsky uses eyes to show precariousness, to show how close we all are to falling, at every moment. In Requiem for a Dream, we could say that Marion has already fallen. In The Wrestler, we could say that Randy knows he has fallen but is struggling to right himself, to pull himself back up. In Black Swan, Nina knows she is falling, but the particular fall she takes provides her with a toxic charge. This video mix by Vimeo user “WarmBakedBread” gives us a laparoscopic glimpse of the lives Aronofsky portrays, and invites us to witness de-evolution at its most thrilling.”
The drug scenes from Requiem for a dream are a bit similar to the style of the Ring tape. The fast paced close ups.

Mise En Scene of The Main Character
Samara is an eight-year old, brown-eyed girl with long dark hair that covers most of her face. She wears an oversized white dress and black shoes. Samara appears quite pale and rarely talks. In her cursed form, Samaras appearance resembles a Japanese onryo spirit, a spirit focused on vengeance. Her hair now appears black and soaking wet, hiding her water logged and deformed face which has turned somewhat grey in colour and she has sunken, nearly colourless eyes. Her skin has become an unnatural moldy colour, although when she climbs out of a television, her skin appears a murky grey. Her seven days white dress becomes tattered and soaked with water, turning it a brownish-yellow and grey.”
